Security Battle Droids - Militaries Of Star Wars - 1:6 Scale Figures

Though some criticize battle droids’ mindlessness, supporters of these mechanized soldiers argue that this is, in fact, a virtue. Following orders without question, these loyal droids are easily controlled and absolutely fearless. Each droid is identified by a numerical marking, and various colors denote droid specialties. Security Droids are distinguished by their unique red markings. The Sideshow Collectibles Security Droids – Sixth Scale figure set allows collectors to build their own Confederate army comprised of fully articulated droids, fresh from the assembly line or gun shot and battle weathered.

Although Hasbro has at one point or another given us every last version of the B-1 Battle Droid in 3.75” in the past, they seem reluctant to give us modern updates to them. Most of the variations were released in either the Episode I or Power Of The Jedi lines, but most recently we’re lucky to get updates to the standard infantry Battle Droid from across the Prequel trilogy (tan or maroon). Thankfully Sideshow Collectibles have expended a large tooling budget on a 1:6 Scale Figure Battle Droid buck and it goes without saying that they’re going to pump out every last version they can find throughout the Star Wars universe and release it in the 1:6 Scale Figures line. So far we have gotten the Battle Droid (Infantry) two-pack, OOM-9 Battle Droid Commander an even a S.T.A.P And Battle Droid set. The wonderful sculpt that Sideshow’s artists have crafted impresses beyond measure. We have small gripes with some of the aesthetics of the sculpt, but in general we’re thoroughly impressed and cannot wait to see all of the various B1 Battle Droids have their day in the sun, even it may become a little less exciting with each impending release. They had a prevalent role in the Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace and now the Security Battle Droids are up next to populate the popular Militaries Of Star Wars line. We should also note that they can be seen in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith as well, albeit in a smaller role. Obviously not a whole heck of new broken ground will be made on the Security Battle Droids, but it’s nice to see some newly decorated Battle Droids to help round out your 1:6 Scale Figures collection. We’re still eager about the B-1 Battle Droid sculpt. Sideshow Collectibles really got this nearly perfect right from the start. We’re glad they don’t need to reinvent the wheel here.

All of the good points have been carried forward into the Security Battle Droids. The joints are super tight and can hold their poses quite well. The deco is flawless. Each Security Battle Droid comes with unique deco with one appearing darker and more battle-damaged than the other. It’s wonderful not getting a set of twins in an expensive multipack like this, so we will continually encourage Sideshow Collectible to always bring uniqueness to characters that are essentially identical in every way but the paint job. The amount of articulation Sideshow has added to these figures is of course mind-blowing. They’ve continued to incorporate the tiniest and thinnest pins for smooth (and very tight) swivel articulation. The figure has also been manufactured with premium hinge-jointed articulation as well as some impressive use of additional ball-socket and ball-jointed articulation. The droids are completely functional. Interestingly, the Security Battle Droids seem so delicate, but they have a rigidity to them that gives you the security (pun not intended) that you won’t break them when you attempt to articulate them. The more you play with them the more you will be impressed with just how much you can do with them. Overall, we’re overjoyed with their functionality, screen accurate likenesses and simplistically complicated design. We do however need to mention a slight flaw. We’re not sure if its inherent to our sample or this appears across the board. These figures seem to be afflicted with some sort of Battle Droid scoliosis. Maybe it’s just the way that they were constructed, but slight curvatures exists and there are points of the droid that you can never truly level (horizontally or vertically). It’s not a huge issue, but it’s noticeable to us.

You’ll likely be impressed with the materials of the Security Battle Droids as well. The plastic used to sculpt them is lightweight, but has some “give” so that they don’t feel entirely brittle when attempting to pose them into some really cool action stances. Multiple joints in the arms allow for a full array of various poses and the ball-socket thumb is very useful for keeping the included droid blaster in his hand and the lower arms areas are perhaps the areas of these Security Battle Droids that feel the most brittle to us. The Battle Droids can be posed with wide stances thanks to superbly designed ball-jointed hips and feet. And the hinge-jointed knees and swivel ankles just help that aggressive pose become a reality for you. From what we can tell, the Battle Droids are an exact replica of the three-dimensional images seen in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (and subsequent films as well). And all of the movements captured in the film can pretty much be imitated with the 1:6 Scale Figures as well. We have uttered this already, but the Security Battle Droids have gorgeous paint jobs. One area that Sideshow Collectibles never fails is deco. The final paint jobs on all of the 1:6 Scale Figures consistently impress us. We are also happy with the simple inclusion of a droid blaster. Security Battle Droids do not wear backpack, nor antennas, so it makes the accessory count light here. Thankfully Sideshow has sculpted the back of the figures to look pleasing to the eye, even if there isn’t a backpack to add. Also, the price is fair. In an age where figures are exceeding $200, it’s comforting to know that they’re willing to sell two Security Battle Droids for less than the price on one human or alien 1:6 Scale Figure. As you can see, we’re very happy with this release.
