After Han Solo's capture at Cloud City, the carbonite-encased Corellian is taken by bounty hunter Boba Fett to the desert palace of Jabba the Hutt, where he is hung upon the wall as a living trophy. Unwilling to give up on Han, Princess Leia and her friends begin plans for a daring rescue. While Lando infiltrates the crime lord's ranks in disguise as a guard and Luke Skywalker sends the droids to the Hutt as "gifts," the princess adopts the persona of an Ubese tracker named Boushh and travels to Tatooine in disguise, with Chewbacca as her apparent prisoner.

Gaining an audience with Jabba the Hutt and still disguised beneath the alien helmet, Leia offers Chewbacca in exchange for a hefty reward. Overconfident and greedy, the Hutt forgets prudence in his excitement over the Wookiee's capture. He welcomes the bounty hunter Boushh into his den and, after some spirited haggling involving a thermal detonator, agrees to pay a respectable fee, ignorant of the threat he has just admitted.

With all the pieces in place, Leia now makes her move to free Han. Under the cover of darkness, she sneaks through the Hutt's audience chamber and activates the thaw cycle on the smuggler's wall-mounted carbonite block, catching Han as he pitches forward, out of the icy prison. Cradling her prone love, Leia removes her helmet and reveals her identity to Han, but a rumbling laugh from behind Jabba's curtain cuts short their reunion and any hope of immediate escape...

One of the greatest things about growing up with the Original Trilogy is that we got to experience all of the surprises in the films first hand without them hearing about them from a legendary sense in popular culture. We actually were there and experienced the surprise firsthand. How shocking it was when we learned Darth Vader was Luke Skywalker’s father. We smiled when we discovered Yoda was a tiny green creature aggravating Luke’s last nerve in a swamp. We were thrilled to see what Ewoks actually looked like after their appearance was held close to the vest until the film was released. And we were blown away when we realized that the bounty hunter who captured Chewbacca was actually the beautiful Princess Leia in bounty hunter disguise. Growing up with the films also meant we grew up with the toys. How many of us clearly remember like it was yesterday receiving Princess Leia Organa (Boushh Disguise) from the Kenner 3.75” line and thinking it was the greatest things since sliced bread? These are just some of the joys of growing up in the late seventies and eighties. Thankfully, the artisans at Sideshow Collectibles can relate and produce high end collectibles with respect that relates to old-time collectors.

Princess Leia (As Boushh) is a wonderful release from the 1:6 Scale Figure in Sideshow Collectibles’ Heroes Of The Rebellion sub-line. We have to comment almost immediately that Princess Leia (As Boushh) is a step above the previously released figures in this line. Sideshow still has some difficulty with portrait size and likeness, but they really have done a topnotch job with this release. In an desperate effort to keep authenticity in check, they’ve included to separate portraits here: masked and unmasked. Both are easy to remove and replace and for the most part are excellently sculpted and painted. If you’re a trivia lover, you’ll love to learn that Sideshow Collectible have added “1138” to the right sides of the Boushh helmet. As you know, George Lucas has an “1138” reference in each of the Star Wars films. For Return Of The Jedi, the number is on Boushh’s helmet. That’s not the only brilliant detail on this figure however. Princess Leia (As Boushh) has a stunning paint job. As you know, she is wearing a great amount of hardware like various canisters, studded gloves and a bandolier. All of them have been precisely sculpted and cast in plastic and fit onto her costume brilliantly. But it is her base outfit too that shines glorious light on this piece. With an evident suede-like grain, her pants have been recreated using a faux suede material. It looks fantastic. Her outfit is soft and has an inconsistent grain. It looks amazing!

Her weaponry is equally impressive. She comes with a long staff. It’s taller than she is and fits wonderfully in her hand. She also has a removable backpack (which actually looks like more canisters) with some Aurebesh (or perhaps Ubese) language on it as well as more numbers. Again, the paint jobs given to these pieces are just simply amazing. Sideshow Collectibles has also molded a thermal detonator that fits perfectly in her left hand. What’s nice is that thanks to her articulation you can have her hold it up in a threatening manner just as in Episode VI. The layers, the details and the colors are all accurate and everything is perfectly in place with this release. There is a lot to celebrate here and we’re so impressed with the final product. For Sideshow Exclusive collectors, they’ve included a Ubese blaster. We don’t know if this detail was in the film or not (it probably was), but it looks cool and more weaponry is always a good thing. Sideshow Collectibles is really knocking out incredible offerings of characters based from Return Of The Jedi. We hope that this trend doesn’t end any time soon. Princess Leia (As Boushh) really shines above so may recent releases in Sideshow’s 1:6 Scale Figures line. It’s encouraging to see them continually get better and better with each release. Let’s hope this train makes no stops.
