Boba Fett - TBS [P1] - Six Inch Figures (#06)

It’s easy for collectors to get agitated when Hasbro repackages a figure so soon in any given toy line, but we believe most will overlook the “sin” of repackaging Boba Fett so early in the second wave of The Black Series 6” line. Originally available in the highly sought after 2013 TBS Boba Fett And Han Solo In Carbonite San Diego Comic Con exclusive set, Boba Fett now comes sans carbonite block but with everything else in place to become more widely available. Many feel that choosing Boba Fett as an exclusive is a Top 10 mistake, and what’s worse is that there are no confirmed plans at the moment to get out Han Solo In Carbonite out, although rumors abound about a 6” The Black Series Jabba the Hutt figure. Let us reiterate. That’s a vicious rumor at this point. So we can probably all agree that getting Boba Fett out again so soon is a wise decision. Unrealistic (and probably unreasonable) demand has been created for Boba Fett. Hasbro should know by now that they just can’t tell collectors we can’t have something. The SDCC exclusive was way under-produced and the aggravation felt by all trying to acquire reached an all-new high point.

The good news here is that Boba Fett is pretty much a straight repack of the figure contained in the SDCC exclusive set, although, there are some differences we have to note. Aside from different (and lighter) paint operations in the lower legs and more silver in the helmet, the chest plate armor is a different shade of green and the digital display is now red instead of orange. Clearly, Han Solo In Carbonite and the stand aren’t included either. But there is no need to worry about missing a weapon or accessory. It’s all contained within the “basic” figure version. We are able to determine paint variations from one figure to the next with the naked eye, so that may bother you, and understandably so. Most know the figure’s plusses and minuses already. Boba Fett comes with an astounding 22 points of articulation and ball-jointed hips, which is something we felt for years should have been included in the 3.75” scale. There are just some action figures that should not be made without this premium articulation. Boba Fett is just one example of a character that ALWAYS needs these points of articulation. We digress. What’s unfortunate in Boba Fett (#06)’s case is that his pouches prevent full range of motion of the ball-jointed hips. This is as frustrating as it is sad and we don’t understand why Hasbro will put so much effort into something like enhanced articulation only to have it diminished by a sculpt design that inhibits it.

No matter what issue Boba Fett has, there is no denying that he is a one fantastic looking action figure. He is exactly the reason why we need The Black Series 6” line. Excellent proportions, phenomenal details and with just a few exceptions, excellent system of articulation points. Hasbro is really rocking out the rocker ankle joints and they too have quickly become a necessity for us not only in the 6” scale but also the 3.75” scale. We love them and believe most everyone else will as well. If we had to nitpick about something else, we don’t get why Hasbro exaggerates the length of his cape. There is no way it was this long. The long cape looks much worse on the 3.75” version (as released in The Vintage Collection and Legacy Collection), but it still is too long here. We have mentioned before that Hasbro seems to have to conquer a learning curve in The Black Series 6” line. While everything isn’t completely perfect, figures like Boba Fett should still impress Star Wars collectors from any genre or generation. The Black Series 6” Boba Fett is still the show stealer in the line so far. It may be worthwhile to focus on OT troopers and other army-builders since this is where their strengths lie.
