Wicket W. Warrick is the brave Ewok scout who played an instrumental role in helping the Rebel Alliance defeat the Galactic Empire during the Battle of Endor.
Wait. This Mini Bust was released?! Wicket W. Warrick was a blink and you’ll miss it Mini Bust. Arriving right at Christmastime 2011, the very first Ewok Mini Bust made fans of Return Of The Jedi very, very happy. Many collectors won’t admit they like Ewoks, but they do. And if the instantaneous sell through of the Wicket W. Warrick Mini Bust is any indication, we’ll continue to buy the many more Ewoks Gentle Giant Ltd. can develop and manufacture for the Mini Bust line as well. Wicket W. Warrick, limited to 1,650 pieces falls somewhere in between rare and average as far as edition size is concerned, but we bet Gentle Giant Ltd. had no idea that the piece would be a sleeper hit and that fans who don’t even normally buy Mini Busts would be scrambling the get this pieces in their collections. Admittedly, the piece is very well done. We would venture a guess that not all collectors find him as perfect as we do, but ultimately there is more good than bad with regards to praise when reviewing it.
The most noticeable peculiarity is how much of Wicket W. Warrick we receive for the Mini Bust. We imagined that Gentle Giant Ltd. would have still cut him off at the waist and given collectors a much shorter Mini Bust. But perhaps to make this feel like $60 piece they felt more was the way to go. The likeness wit Wicket is excellent. There are criticisms that the fur is too dark overall, but especially in the face area. We somewhat disagree with that assessment. Lighting has everything to do with how dark or light things appear, and we think the Wicket W. Warrick Mini Bust is appropriately colored. The Mini Bust comes win two parts: the actual Mini Bust and then one half of the spear is a separate piece and attached to the other half Wicket is holding. We have seen many promo pictures of Wicket and it seems that this Mini Bust is inspired by the most common and perhaps most popular. Wicket’s head is tilted to the side in curiosity and we have seen this many times in various Return Of The Jedi reference materials.
Another nice detail is that despite Wicket’s small stature, this Mini Bust feels chucky and weighty in your hands. This may seem insignificant in the grand scheme of things, but as a collector it’s nice to receive substance when spending $50+ for a collectible. Ultimately, it is such a fantastic thing that Gentle Giant is so devoted to producing high quality pieces no matter how big or small they are in the Star Wars universe. Wicket is proof that they are committed to main characters as much as background characters. Besides, they also seem to have more success recreating aliens than they do with human likenesses. Wicket W. Warrick has definitely paved the way for Gentle Giant Ltd. to start beating out Ewok Mini Busts. Logray is the second Ewok Mini Bust and we expect others like Paploo and perhaps Teebo could be next on their radar. The inclusion of Ewoks into the line is great for fans of Episode VI. We hope Ewoks continue as well as the rest of Jabba’s palace aliens too. It’s amazing how versatile the polystone medium is.
