After assisting the last of the Jedi in escaping the murderous rampages of the clone troopers, Bail Organa has a meeting with Master Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Faced with determining the fates of the newborn twins, Yoda instructs Obi-Wan to deliver Luke to his aunt and uncle on Tatooine, while Bail volunteers to adopt Leia and raise her wife his wife on Alderaan. There she will be loved and cared for as one of their own. Obi-Wan and Yoda agree that allowing the trustworthy Senator Organa to care for the child is the best option for young Leia.
Unless you’re a hardcore archivist like we are, you may not have been aware that Hasbro gave collectors a few preliminary products to tease what the new toy line would be after 2005’s Revenge Of The Sith came to an end. The new line, entitled The Saga Collection, started in 2005, even though most refer to it as the line of 2006. (Editor’s Note: It also extended well into 2007 before finally capping off with a few brilliant exclusives before the 30 (77-07) line arrived.) The Revenge Of The Sith collection was one of the most aggressive lines for a Star Wars film. The dedication and focus Hasbro executed to bring collectors a uniquely diverse character base was unprecedented. With the number of figures collectors received for Episode III, there were many other characters Hasbro had yet to produce. Collectors were desperate to see these unmade characters. A pair of Walmart exclusives entitled Separation Of The Twins came in the all-new The Saga Collection line look packaging. Yet, Hasbro kept elements of the Revenge Of The Sith line look present to make a seamless transition. Most notably is the “fire” background within the Star Wars logo.
What you may find interesting is that the Separation Of The Twins figures came in an individual case assortment, which included 50% of key figures from the Revenge Of The Sith line that still needed to meet demand. Talk about blending two distinct line-looks, so did the case assortment! The packaging is stunning. There is color coding (orange represents Episode III), and Hasbro returned the silver and black elements to bring in some of the “old school” spirit back. We find it humorous that although these exclusives contain well-articulated versions of Bail Organa and Obi-Wan Kenobi, Hasbro has decided that they are the “accessories” instead. The unarticulated Infant Leia Organa and Infant Luke Skywalker “figures” are genuinely the “pack-ins” here. Star Wars fans begged Hasbro for infant versions of the twins, and here they are. At a very reasonable $4.77 each set, you have no room to complain that this is unaffordable. Put these two sets in your budget because they are necessary purchases. Not only do we now have cute sculpts of the Skywalker children, but Hasbro also designed them to interact quite well with the previously sculpted “adult” figures that accompany them.
Infant Leia Organa With Bail Organa as a duo looks incredible! Bail Organa is a slight repaint of 2005’s ROTS Bail Organa (III 15) figure. Hasbro included all of the accessories from the original release, save for the environmental display stand. The figure comes well-articulated, but the swivel elbows are terrible, and there aren’t any ankle joints. In short, the figure can “move,” but not all of it is completely meaningful. Also, the plastic molded cape inhibits the right arm, so it doesn’t have a complete range of motion unless you take it off of the figure. But thankfully, you can still pose Bail Organa holding Infant Leia Organa well, which is a blessing since the figure doesn’t look half as good not wearing the cape. Infant Leia Organa, on the other hand, is an accessory. But we love it, and this tiny “accessory” is adorable. It’s pretty hard to paint a face on a baby at this scale without making it look too cartoonish. But it seems fine to us, and we’re happy that Hasbro decided to sculpt an “infant action figure” for the Star Wars line. It may seem like a no-brainer for Hasbro to make these versions of Leia and Luke, but collectors wondered for a while if they’d ever come. Thank the Maker they did!
