Count Dooku - ROTS - Basic (III 13)

Count Dooku is the leader of the Separatist movement. A renegade Jedi, Dooku has torn apart the galaxy with his plan to bring down the Republic. He is known as Darth Tyranus, a Dark Lord of the Sith.

The Revenge Of The Sith line contained some surprises for collectors. And surprisingly Hasbro made characters we already received the most impressive. Perhaps they were pressured to show growth and development of Prequel Trilogy characters that don’t fair as well by 2005 standards. Take for instance Count Dooku, an incredibly updated action figure that should remain one of the finest representations of him in the basic figure line for years to come. Perfectly accessorized with a soft-goods half length cape and his signature lightsaber, Count Dooku is an action figure that you’ll be proud to own in your collection. And quite honestly, between the excellent portrait and the scene-specific hand gestures, we’re not so sure what else we would have asked for to make this action figure more to our individual tastes. What's more, you can [SPOILER ALERT] remove his head and hands just like Anakin does in the film with his and Dooku's lightsaber. Of course more hip movement and less inhibition from the plastic molded skirt would have been nice. And what action figure isn’t more ideal with ball-jointed ankles? But even so, we bet that you’ll fall hard for this incredible action figure because it’s definitely one of the crowning achievements in the Revenge Of The Sith basic figure line.

We’re slightly bummed out that Count Dooku has a swivel neck, but it would be in your best interest to focus on the wonderful things Hasbro did to make it a better than average action figure. Count Dooku comes with ball-jointed elbows and ball-jointed knees. And the incorporation of swivel forearms and with the rest of the upper arms articulated with ball-joints provides him with the perfect range of movement you could ever want in a Count Dooku figure. We’ve mentioned the head sculpt already. Well, it’s fantastic. The sculptors who were involved with many of the collector-focused figures in this line have developed some impressive sculpts. But what is most impressive is the evolution in between the 2004 and the Revenge Of The Sith line that took place when it comes to figures’ likenesses. A new and higher standard of action figure making has been enacted and collectors of the Revenge Of The Sith line are the first recipients of this goodness. From the crow’s feet surrounding his aged eyes to a flawless replication of his hairline, Hasbro has proven with this exact figure that they mean business now to bring us the best action figures possible. Not all figures can reap the benefits of this wonderful treatment, but we’re thankful they did for Dooku. It was very much needed.

The Revenge Of The Sith line has updated so many Jedi first seen in collections from 1999 through 2004. Hasbro has been upping the articulation and the attention to detail on great characters like Saesee Tiin, Shaak Ti and Luminara Unduli. And the Revenge Of The Sith line has doing its due diligence by updating the Sith too. A figure like Count Dooku is definitely geared towards collectors, as it’s a Collection 2 figure, but there is no way kids aren’t going to be interested in this figure too and want him for their collections as well. The figure brings so much to the table that it’s almost as if Count Dooku had been planned for universal appeal. Obviously collectors will be most appreciative of the achievements was with this figure, but there is no reason why collectors of all ages with find this figure appealing. Hopefully Hasbro will continue this trend of adding more premium articulation like this into future action figures. Count Dooku really only scratches the surface of what can be accomplished in the basic action figure line, but he’s a great start for Hasbro entering the world of super-articulation with all of their basic action figures. This one is a keeper folks. You’re really going to enjoy him.
