A venerated Jedi in the Order, Qui-Gon Jinn has the respect and admiration of the Jedi Council, if perhaps not always their full confidence. Something of a maverick among his peers, the wise knight believes in living in the moment and trusting his instincts more so than most Jedi. Where the Jedi Order places great value in meditative reflection, Qui-Gon is a man of action, sometimes acting impetuously and recklessly in the eyes of the Council. Known for his occasional disregard of their rules, Qui-Gon has not yet been given a seat among the Jedi's governing elite, though his experience and leadership qualities have almost certainly earned him such an honor.

During the Naboo blockade by Trade Federation forces, Qui-Gon Jinn and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi are dispatched to act as mediators. While young Obi-Wan is nagged by prescient doubts about the mission, Qui-Gon councils him to focus on the moment and not allow anxiety to cloud his thinking and actions. The situation deteriorates quickly when the Federation's treachery is revealed, and Qui-Gon and his apprentice become fugitives along with Naboo's Queen Amidala.

Whilst escorting the Queen to safety on Coruscant, the Jedi inadvertently stumble upon the Force-gifted slave boy Anakin Skywalker, in whom Qui-Gon recognizes the potential for a great destiny. Master Qui-Gon is familiar with an ancient Jedi prophecy concerning the emergence of one who would bring balance to the Force and his feelings tell him that Anakin might be that one. Despite a direct order not to do so by the Jedi Council, who have grave doubts about the boy, Qui-Gon trusts in his feelings and elects to make Anakin his ward, teaching him all that he can about the Force, no matter where that path might lead.

Sideshow Collectibles chose Jedi evenly across most of the Star Wars films by the time Qui-Gon Jinn got announced. Not meant to focus on any one film, the Order Of The Jedi sub-collection (as well as the others) are meant to fairly represent all characters who fall under than branch. Episode I does not get a lot of love in general by licensees, but Sideshow seemed to want to make the playing field as fair as possible and as a result we get the lead Jedi Master from Episode I in one-sixth scale. The Qui-Gon Jinn (Jedi Master) 1:6 Scale Figure is pretty much exactly what you would expect from Sideshow. It’s excellently sculpted, nicely outfitted and perfectly accessorized and will undoubtedly be a highly sought after collectible for years to come if the edition size isn’t representative of demand. (We believe too many units were produced of the regular edition however.) Qui-Gon Jinn is a staple Jedi in the Star Wars saga and Sideshow has truly showed this character respect in their very popular 1:6 Scale Figure collection.

Exclusive collectors are treated to the poncho he wore during most of the middle of The Phantom Menace. This of course was a “regular” accessory in the Hasbro line, in fact, it came woven in two distinct colors, so we’re a bit perplexed why Sideshow Collectibles would make such a basic accessory exclusive. For example, they’ve included the midi-chlorian counter in this set. it’s so tiny and insignificant that it would have made an ideal exclusive accessory candidate. But choosing to make the poncho exclusive will probably hurt the sale of the regular edition of this 1:6 Scale Figure more than anything else. Many collectors are going to want the poncho and see it as a must-have garment for Qui-Gon Jinn. Sideshow also ensured they included the Episode I specific holoprojector with the three protruding appendages coming out of the sides. Other accessories like the lightsaber and lightsaber hilt are excellently designed and his outer robe and the rest of his clothing is well fitted without looking baggy or out of place on his frame.

Qui-Gon Jinn, just like the rest of the Order Of The Jedi figures, utilizes the Art S. Buck body type. We are not sold-out fans of this body type, but we have to admit that is works flawlessly for Qui-Gon Jinn. In fact, out of all the Order Of The Jedi 1:6 Scale Figures Sideshow Collectibles has produced, Qui-Gon Jinn (Jedi Master) absolutely looks the best. Qui-Gon Jinn has a stature that matches very closely to the natural stance of the Art S. Buck body and that is why it looks so good. Other figures like Anakin Skywalker (Jedi Knight) for example look off because the same Art S. Buck body type doesn’t work as well for that figure. We also have noticed that Sideshow has developed clothing that fit Qui-Gon Jinn like a glove. They never really had a problem with mastering this in the past, but it looks especially perfect on Qui-Gon Jinn. The Qui-Gon Jinn (Jedi Master) 1:6 Scale Figure is one of the best 12” figures in the Order Of The Jedi line. The head sculpt could have been tweaked a hair to be more accurate, but everything else is flawless. This is one to definitely consider for your collection!
