The men and women of the Rebel Alliance are fiercely dedicated to the principle of freedom and their belief in democracy, willing to lay down their lives to see the fall of the Empire. Some were Imperials disillusioned with their government's tyranny. Some were from worlds subjugated by the Empire. In stark contrast to the faceless anonymity of the stormtrooper ranks or the precision drilling of Imperial Academy training, Alliance troops were aggressively individualistic and much more rag-tag.
Princess Leia led a desperate mission in the battle against the Empire, delivering the stolen plans for the Death Star to the Rebellion in hope that Rebellion forces might find a weakness in the battle station's engineering. Leia's ship, the Tantive IV, was captured by Lord Vader near the desert world of Tatooine, and Vader's forces wasted no time boarding the blockade runner.
Aboard the Tantive IV, Vader's troops are quick to begin interrogating its crew for information on the stolen Death Star plans believed to be on board. Lord Vader has little patience in his inquisition. Vader chooses to make an example of the commander of the Tantive IV, Captain Raymus Antilles. The captain has lead his crew through many battles against the Empire, destroying six Imperial shipyards and saving ferries of Rebel captives from certain death. A fearless ally of the Rebel Alliance, Captain Antilles refuses to give up any information on the plans' whereabouts standing firm in defense of his cause.
The Sideshow Collectibles 1:6 Scale Captain Antilles figure from the Militaries Of Star Wars collection is such a cool figure. If you're a collector with some longevity in the hobby, you first had the opportunity to get an Antilles figure in the Hasbro line in 2004. A rather unlikely choice for a 1:6 Scale Figure, Sideshow seems intent on bringing collectors obscure (or just not mainstream to be more accurate) characters from the Star Wars films in their totally awesome 1:6 Scale Figure line. Captain Antilles literally had just moments of screen time in Episode IV and we really didn't get a good look at his face. But with access to reference materials and the ability to communicate with both Hasbro and Lucasfilm, Ltd., Sideshow Collectibles is able to create authentic and extremely accurate versions of the characters we have grown to love and they almost never fail in the delivery of incredible likenesses and quality accessories and outfits. Cleverly utilizing smart move on their part, this Captain Antilles figure borrows some of the same design of the previously released Rebel Fleet Trooper. From the perfectly fitting helmet to the safari-inspired military uniform, Captain Antilles has a plethora of positivity to bring into your 1:6 Scale Figure collection and may just be one of Sideshow's most underrated figures of all time.
We couldn't help but notice that Captain Antilles has an uncanny resemblance to actor Robert Patrick. And X-Files fans who picked up the Sideshow X-Files 1:6 Scale Figures of Agent Dogget will definitely see the similarities. But whether you see the resemblance or not, Sideshow remains brilliant in their execution of getting human characteristics just perfect and it is quite an amazing thing how well they can execute it. Captain Antilles has the most incredible lifelike characteristics. From the color in his skin to the wrinkles in his face, Captain Antilles bring a humanity to the 1:6 Scale Figure line that hasn't really been captured as well on earlier figures. But perhaps a lot of this interpretation is due to the fact that we really didn't get a good look at his face in the film. But whether we truly know what Captain Antilles looks exactly like or not, it doesn't explain away how well Hasbro crafted his portrait. As a result, fans should expect to become more and more impressed with the selection of human characters Sideshow chooses to make and release. It seems things can only go up from here. Captain Antilles doesn't have the familiarity of an Imperial Stormtrooper or the main character status as Luke Skywalker or Han Solo, but he is truly nonetheless as important as all of them. The spirit of Star Wars collecting dictates that secondary characters are just as relevant as the main characters and Sideshow is making this a case in point in their 1:6 Scale Figure line.
Captain Antilles is strewn with some really impressive details. And one of the coolest features on him are his boots. They are incredibly shiny and have been cast in a beautiful cordovan colored vinyl that looks as if it is real shined genuine leather. There are multiple layers of shading in the boots and the light captures the details incredibly. His helmet fits over his head like a glove and stays in place thanks to an elastic strap. It seems like it was made with good quality and we're hoping the strap remains in place for years to come. Sideshow managed to find an ultra thin metal rod for the antenna that sticks straight up from atop the helmet. It looks so cool! The captain ranking detail on the military jacket is perfectly placed above his right pocket and the three-quarter length coat he is wearing is just stunning and has a very nice and crisp drape. The Australian outback styling of his costume is magnificently tailored and the black blood stripe on either side of the pants finishes the figure off perfectly. He comes with interchangeable hands and the standard Rebel Alliance blaster. Captain Antilles is remarkably perfect from head to toe. Although there has been quite a bit of clamoring about the continual rise in price for the 1:6 Scale Figures, Sideshow Collectibles is delivering excellent and quality products and they continually invigorate the line year after year with something fresh, new, and exciting making it all worth the cost.
