Does anyone else find it perverse that it takes the introduction of a new Disney Star Wars character to motivate Hasbro to produce new tooling for a specific species? Of course, we’re talking about the Wookiees when referencing Krrsantan. How is it that the most beloved Wookiee of all time, Chewbacca, doesn’t get all-new tooling, but a Wookiee that likely no one cares about, Krrsantan, gets the deluxe makeover? Wouldn’t it have been more just for Hasbro to use 2004’s VOTC Chewbacca and rework it a bit to design Krrsantan, and then Chewbacca should have gotten an all-new makeover? That said, the all-new Krrsantan is a relative masterpiece. We suppose whatever it takes for Hasbro to produce all-new tooling for action figures is a win for everyone. And hopefully, an all-new Chewbacca from the Original Trilogy or Wookiee Warriors from the Prequel Trilogy has found a space in Hasbro’s parking lot because of Krrsantan. Hasbro assembled a deluxe package for Krrsantan and released it as 2023’s San Diego Comic-Con exclusive. The packaging is reminiscent of something you might find in The Vintage Collection, but the presentation is lovely, thanks to beautiful box art and a collection of accessories we haven’t seen given to a 3.75-inch super-articulated action figure until now. More on that in a moment.
The all-new Krrsantan is a lovely action figure. When you see this action figure, you’ll immediately think of the Wookiee Warriors from Revenge Of The Sith. Also referred to as Black Krrsantan, the character is making its way throughout the Star Wars universe, and fans of the franchise are embracing this Wookiee. The action figure is thick, tall, and weighty. Hasbro incorporated both simple and premium articulation into the figure’s design. For example, the head sculpt is a ball-socket joint, but the shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees, and ankles are premium insert-molded ball joints. Surprisingly, despite thick extremities, Krrsantan is mobile and has admirable flexibility. As a massive bonus here, Hasbro threw in two sets of interchangeable hands, both open palms, and fists, so you can have this Wookiee enjoy a meal (with the included fruit and stein) or have the figure box its enemies, namely Boba Fett. Other accessories include a sizeable heavy blaster that breaks down into two parts, a standard bowcaster (also two parts), and an electro blaster with an electro effect. Then, they included two more negligible electro effects that latch onto the open-hand attachments to recreate what we see in the Star Wars universe. We’re perhaps most impressed with the pair of swords. This action figure looks incredible, wielding them.
Krrsantan has an incredible likeness, and the details etched into this tooling, like the wavy fur, are nothing short of amazing. If you inspect the figure closely, you see alternating highlights in the coat, especially in the portrait, and they help to create texture and shadowing necessary to breathe life into the action figure. Like Chewbacca, Krrsantan doesn’t wear pants either, so to make up for this indecency, Hasbro created a stunning harness, again, similar to the Wookiee Warriors in Revenge Of The Sith, and although it fits closely around this figure’s torso, it is removable from the figure if you slide it down its body and over the feet. We’re struggling to recall when we received a 3.75-inch super-articulated action figure with this many accessories. Not even the Deluxe subline in The Vintage Collection pairs this many accessories with its figures, so we believe Hasbro was gracious here. However, what they weren’t compassionate about was the MSRP. Krrsantan costs $39.99, which is ridiculous as it is painful. However, we associate all San Diego Comic-Con exclusives with highway robbery pricing. And at least none of us needed to attend the event to secure this action figure. If you’re not a fan of Disney Star Wars, there are no worries here. Krrsantan will fit into your George Lucas-era Star Wars without any issues. And this figure looks excellent amongst those characters, too.
