It’s almost like a blast from the past! Do you remember back in 2006 when Hasbro released the ‘Expanded Universe”-inspired The Saga Collection Mace Windu’s Attack Battalion Battle Packs set, a Target exclusive? Well, this flavor of troops has reared itself again in the awful modern era of Hasbro Star Wars. We also saw characters from the 187th in the original The Clone Wars line through basic and exclusive 3.75-inch action figures. But now, we’re seeing a slightly new flavor of them in The Black Series 6-inch line, and honestly, this release looks rather fantastic despite being more of the same recycled parts. The paint operations save the Clone Trooper (187th Battalion) from being a letdown. They did an excellent job of capturing the design and spirit of the clone trooper by utilizing an eggshell-white base armor color and then adding precise burgundy color flashes with exquisite patterns that cover a nice portion of the bone-white armor. What made this release incredibly frustrating was its availability, or more accurately, its lack of availability. Appearing suddenly in stock in October 2022, it quickly sold out, and then a brief appearance in January before quickly selling out the second time. It wasn’t until January 2023 that the figure began showing up at Walgreens brick-and-mortar stores. Like all expensive Hasbro Star Wars toys, the Clone Trooper (187th Battalion) has an MSRP of $24.99 – and is hardly worth the price. But it is a lovely addition to the line.
