Two of the most feared bounty hunters in the galaxy, Boba Fett and Bossk have crossed paths over the course of their careers as both collaborators and competitors. Both had undeniable skill, but only one became a legend.
The Retro Collection isn’t everyone’s bag, but for those that love everything Kenner, it’s a way to celebrate the past without having to spend crazy dollars, as long as you believe replicas are suitable substitutes for the many holy grails of our childhoods. In a slightly strange move, Hasbro cobbled together the 2 Special Action Figures [Boba Fett/Bossk] set, which includes a previously-released action figure (Boba Fett), and then paired it with another first-time offering (Bossk). The set ranks between mediocre and charming, but we have to admit that the final version of Bossk looks a bit off for some reason. The arms, in particular, seem misshapen or awkwardly bent. And something got lost in translation with the deco. The head color is too light, and the vibrant yellow of the 1980 original release appears paler now. The Trandoshan bounty hunter was a favorite for most childhood Kenner collectors, and it’s lovely to see the character represented in the Retro Collection line. We wish Hasbro would have fine-tuned the final figure to make it look closer to the original. Also, this set became available in the fourth quarter of 2022. Would it have behooved Hasbro to focus on a set of characters from Return Of The Jedi instead? We digress. The inclusion of Boba Fett feels wise to us. We recall the figure not coming close to filling demand when first released in 2020. So, we’re thankful that Hasbro gave everyone another opportunity to secure the figure, albeit with slightly different card art and text. Boba Fett looks remarkably similar to the 1979 SW Boba Fett figure. We don’t have anything to complain about with it as far as we’re concerned. The packaging of the 2 Special Action Figures [Boba Fett/Bossk] set is excellent and entirely reminiscent of something we would have found on shelves in the early 80s. No matter your take on the Retro Collection, we hope Hasbro continues the line and keeps it as fresh and stimulating as possible. It has excellent potential. Imagine if they start re-releasing classic vehicles like the Imperial Shuttle or playsets like the Ewok Village! That would give collectors something to rejoice about for their collections!
