Originally released as a Walmart exclusive with a vest, Hasbro decided to carry-forward Luke Skywalker in the 2020 phase of the Galaxy Of Adventures lineup. Aside from the missing vest a few different paint operation differences, this is the same figure, just in different packaging. It’s a bit of a chore to process how Hasbro made it, so maybe the Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight) figure exclusive is one way or another. Regardless, we’re thankful Hasbro is making them, no matter the method they release them. The Galaxy Of Adventures line is already off to a great start, but the inclusion of Original Trilogy characters will only bolster the line to greater heights. The Luke Skywalker figure is our most favorite character in the line thus far. Hasbro worked in a surprise or two into this action figure. We’ll go over them all, but let us reiterate once more that Luke Skywalker is a highlight in the Galaxy Of Adventures line, and we hope that all fans of super-articulated figures will give this line a chance. It’s an excellent action figure and a fantastic animated interpretation of our favorite Jedi Knight.
Luke Skywalker comes with only one look this time. Hasbro omitted the removable tunic/vest for this release. This figure is based on Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi and its third act, as Luke Skywalker appeared dueling Darth Vader on Death Star II. We appreciated that Hasbro tooled a tunic for this figure, but why didn’t they paint the white flap black to make this version unique instead? Hasbro designed this figure beautifully. Luke Skywalker is in an animated style, but streamlined, and looks very much like the character being tempted by the dark side of the Force in Return Of The Jedi. Again, the open collar with the white underside folded is disappointing to see. They recreated what the character’s shirt looked like in the final moments of battling Darth Vader on the second Death Star. Luke Skywalker looks fantastic with or without the tunic on him, so collectors shouldn’t be upset that they don’t get it for this release. Hasbro did an overall excellent job here. They should be commended. Yes, the figure is now light on accessories, but you have to understand that they want to keep the Walmart release unique for one reason or another.
Luke Skywalker comes with his signature lightsaber. Unfortunately, the lightsabers in this line do not break down into a hilt and blade. So, we only have a lit lightsaber to contend with here. It doesn’t matter. It’s a lovely designed accessory loaded with detail. And aside from having a hilt that feels too thick for the figure’s hands, the lightsaber is a welcomed addition. Luke Skywalker comes with an articulation system that should impress most lovers of action figures that move. Luke Skywalker achieves a wealth of poses. The ball-socket hips allow the legs to spread wide for agile and action-oriented positions. The super-articulation in the arms and legs gives the figure an extra edge for more delicate things, like the lightsaber’s proper angle while you have him wield it. As you can see, we’re in love with the Galaxy Of Adventures Luke Skywalker action figure. Part of the new line look for 2020, it’s nice to see that this figure now gets a wider distribution than a retailer exclusive. The Galaxy Of Adventures line is likely dead at this point, but at least Hasbro decided to give the final waves to Entertainment Earth to distribute to collectors who want them.
