The COMMTECH Reader GIVES STAR WARS ACTION FIGURES THE POWER TO SPEAK! The COMMTECH Reader used with COMMTECH Chips (included inside and with every Star Wars: Episode I basic action figure) give you the power. Simply touch each figure's COMMTECH Chip to the COMMTECH Reader to hear your figure's character speak. Some will even interact with other figures! Now, the Force is with YOU!
"Now Figures Talk! Through thi CommTech Reader with a CommTech Chip! In 1999, Hasbro alerted collectors that basic action figures would have the capability to talk! That was true from a certain point a view. From 1999 until 2000, with new CommTech technology, each new Episode I and The Power Of The Force "2" action figure came with a CommTech Chip. The CommTech Chip looked like something that would go inside of a personal computer. And with the CommTech Reader, would "download" the sounds stored in them and project them for the collecting community to hear. So, it's not like the action figures came with sound chips inside of them. The CommTech Chips did all of the work, and also served as the pack-in premium to the basic figure lines. Based on the design of the Jedi comlinks seen in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, the Hasbro version is significantly large in scale, and looks a lot more like a toy, of course. You need to take a crash course on how the functionality works (don't' worry, you get a booklet inside of the packaging), and you'll discover that dialogue can be downloaded and that some action figures interact with one another. The CommTech technology is an impressive direction to take the line, but we're not sure how long the novelty will last. The dialogue is not from the film but voice actors instead. So, that's a huge disappointment. Also included is an exclusive CommTech Chip, and it's labeled as "9" on the reverse side. It says, "You will be a Jedi, I promise." (by Obi-Wan Kenobi) "May the Force be with you." (by Qui-Gon Jinn) "Ohh, maxi big da Force!" (by Jar Jar Binks) And it also comes with an explosion sound effect. For $19.99, the CommTech reader is a significant purchase. But you'll need it to make the most out of the CommTech Chips.
