A veteran of many Clone Wars battles, Clone Commander Bly (clone designation CC-5052) served in the 327th Star Corps on such worlds as Quell, Maridun, and Felucia.
Remember when clone commanders were a major priority for Hasbro in the Star Wars action figure line? From 2005’s Revenge Of The Sith line through 2008’s-2013’s The Clone Wars line we got more clones and clone commander than one could count. Today, the same isn’t true. It’s a rarity when we get Prequel Trilogy-era characters. But thankfully, Hasbro hasn’t completely thrown in the towel on the Grand Army of the Republic. And much to everyone’s surprise and pleasure, Clone Commander Bly enters the ranks of The Black Series [Phase III] 6” line. And collectors are going to love this figure. It’s not that Clone Commander Bly breaks any new ground. It doesn’t. But Hasbro stepped up the paint operations and ensured they captured every last detail of this character’s deco scheme (which is one of the most complicated after Clone Commander Gree). Clone Commander Bly captures screen-accuracy, along with a wonderful functional articulation system. From helmet to boot tip, collectors of The Black Series [Phase III] 6” line and those that love anything clone-related, will find favor with Clone Commander Bly.
Clone Commander Bly is a gorgeous action figure. The yellow, white, and brown armor are striking, and Hasbro did a fantastic job preventing any bleeding of paint operations. They faithfully recreated every detail and nuance on the character’s on-screen outfit. In the 2005 Revenge Of The Sith line, Hasbro didn’t include all of the details initially. A running change corrected the missed paint operations, but then years later, they reissued the figure multiple times, and all versions reverted to the original erroneous release. Hasbro got Clone Commander Bly right from the start. So 6” collectors should count themselves fortunate here. The final paint job is clean and crisp, and from head to toe, Clone Commander Bly shines. Clone Commander Bly is a retool and subsequent repaint of 2014's TBS [P1] Clone Trooper (#14) figure. As you know, the Clone Trooper became a base figure for many other clone characters (and most notably commanders) released in the line to date. Hasbro once again added a soft-goods kama, this time it’s all light tan/beige and appears to be accurate to what we see in Episode III.
Clone Commander Bly is the next character in a line of many to be made from these previously-existing parts. This time, however, the figure comes with an all-new belt/holster combination piece. We don’t believe this has been implemented on any other 6” figure to date. The figure is a hodgepodge of parts but looks all-new thanks to how seamless everything came together, but there is some newness here as well. Clone Commander Bly comes with three weapons that include two DC-17 blaster pistols, and a DC-15A blaster. All of the accessories interact with the figure excellently. The other “newness” with Clone Commander Bly is the head sculpt. While we’ve had many Phase II Clone Troopers released in the line thus far, Clone Commander Bly’s head sculpt is unique. There are two holes drilled on the sides to accompany the articulated macrobinoculars that fit into them. This allows for many different iterations of Clone Commander Bly in your dioramas. All we need now to complete the Order 66 that transpired on Felucia is a generic 327th Star Corps Clone Trooper and Aayla Secura, of course. Will Hasbro help us complete this much-needed cast of characters?
