After crash landing on the swamp planet of Dagobah, Luke Skywalker meets the 900-year-old Yoda. The venerable Jedi Master continues Luke's training to become a Jedi Knight in preparation for his encounter with the dark side!
For one reason or another, Hasbro focused heavily on The Empire Strikes Back when it came to the Power Of The Jedi Action Collection line. From bounty hunters to main characters, it felt that we were getting a nice concentration of various characters from the middle episode of the Original Trilogy in 12” scale. One of the brightest highlights in the Power Of The Jedi Action Collection line was the Luke Skywalker & Yoda two-pack. It’s not perfect. We’ll tell you that right at the start. But you’ll be hard-pressed to criticize it. Yes, Luke Skywalker still utilizes an old GI Joe body, which makes him MUCH too bulky. But between the outfit tailored specifically for this buck’s body to the incredible accessories included to re-enact the Jedi training sequences on Dagobah, Luke Skywalker & Yoda is a fantastic exclusive release. We’re confident you’re going to find favor with these figures too. Who hasn’t wanted to pose Yoda inside of Luke’s Jedi training backpack in this scale since the line rebooted? Now we can. A Walmart exclusive with an MSRP pennies shy of $29, Luke Skywalker & Yoda should be a priority for your Star Wars collection.
While we have received past 12 Inch Figure versions of both Luke Skywalker (in Dagobah training gear) and Yoda, this is the first time where the pair have been tooled to interact seamlessly with one another. In short, Hasbro produced these two figures for each other. They're dependent on each other. Included is a Jedi training backpack, complete in blue and with a functioning clasp, so it connects tightly and closely to Luke’s body. The backpack is molded in plastic and is quite rigid and keeps its shape. The mouth of the backpack is wide enough to welcome the Yoda figure and pose him in there for use by itself, or for when it’s attached to Luke Skywalker. When fully assembled, Luke wearing Yoda in the backpack is one of the most iconic scenes from the Original Trilogy, and Hasbro did a fantastic job recreating those moments with this Action Collection set. Yoda can rest his hands on Luke’s shoulders, and Luke Skywalker stands effortlessly with or without wearing the backpack (with or without Yoda inside of it). You have a large number of display options here. Both of the figures look great. There are plusses and minuses here, and we’ll get to all of them in a few short moments.
Hasbro added ball-jointed wrists to Luke Skywalker with the intent of allowing him to do a handstand. However, we were unable to achieve this pose because the wrists don’t bend far enough back to make this possible. Maybe someone out there has had greater success with this than us, but we don’t see how that pose is possible with this figure. The likeness of Luke Skywalker will be a topic of controversial conversation for some. We think it looks pretty good. But we also know people who feel the likeness borders on looking terrible. The hair color looks accurate, as does the sweaty parted look, but we feel Hasbro nailed many of Mark Hamill’s features on this figure. Yoda’s likeness looks incredible as well, in our opinion. Although his coloring is off, Hasbro did a great job of capturing the personality of this tiny Jedi Master. And the included accessories give him the realism this character needs. Hasbro joined the cloth cloak with a necklace, belt, and gimer stick. Yoda interacts with all of them beautifully. He also comes with a decent amount of articulation too. The Luke Skywalker & Yoda two-pack is a must-have for us. Hopefully, it is for you too.
