Imperial Knights Antares Draco and Ganner Krieg go on an unauthorized mission to save Marasiah Fel, the daughter of Emperor Roan Fel. The Sith hope to capture the deposed emperor by threatening Sia's life, but Roan refuses to risk a rescue attempt. Draco cannot stand by and let the woman he loves fall into the hands of the Sith, even though he knows he and Krieg will be walking into a trap.
The story from which this Comic Packs set is based is from Star Wars: Legacy: Broken, Part 5 which also happens to be the sixth comic book in the story arc. In a nutshell, Imperial Knights Antares Draco and Ganner Krieg start up an unauthorized mission to save Princess Marasiah Fel who is currently trapped by Sith on the planet of Vendaxa. They immediately encounter opposition from the Sith holding her and are nearly killed upon arrival. During the battle Antares admits that he loves Marasiah with her replying with the cliché "I know." The Imperial Knights continue their mission to save Marasiah Fel, the daughter of Emperor Roan Fel. The Sith hope to capture the deposed emperor by threatening Sia's life, but Roan refuses to risk a rescue attempt. Draco cannot stand by and let the woman he loves fall into the hands of the Sith, even though he knows he and Krieg will be walking into a trap. This story became an immediate favorite with Expanded Universe aficionados and we do like the OT/PT references in it so we have to admit that it is a pretty good story in our opinion too. But how did the figures turn out?
Both Antares Draco and Ganner Krieg are all-new sculpts, but interestingly they are the same figure as each other from the head down. Just the portraits are different. Most noteworthy is how stunning their beautiful armor is. Cast in a metallic deep blood red, it has all the shimmer and shine you expect to see royalty wearing and it contrasts very nicely against the black parts of the uniform. Their cloaks have functioning hoods and can fit over their heads quite well. They hold lightsabers whose blades are crystal clear. This is a first for a Star Wars action figure and we much say that it is quite an interesting sight to behold. We almost wished that some of our movie-based characters had these very unique accessories because they really look cool. The figures are super-articulated with many of them being ball-jointed. They stand very well and can be posed in a variety of options. They are very well-proportioned and have very athletic builds.
Collectors will be interested to know that the same likeness of the actor who played Quinlan Vos (from the Star Wars: Republic series) (check out our review on 2009's TLC Commander Faie/Quinlan Vos Comic Packs set) was also used for Antares Draco. The actor, Doug Wengler has certainly found his way through the Star Wars Expanded Universe. Similarly, actor Thomas John Spanos modeled for Ganner Krieg. He too also was the basis for another comic book character, Clone Emperor Palpatine from the Star Wars: Dark Empire story. If you look at the Comic Packs set of Emperor Palpatine Clone/Luke Skywalker, you will see similarities in the face sculpt. It is a great thing to get all-new figures in the Comic Packs sets. Sometimes Hasbro becomes too involved with repacking and repainting figures, but every now and again we get some great all-new figure sets to complement the line. And for fans of Quinlan Vos, you probably will love this set to get Antares Draco. After all, he is essentially the same “character” as Quinlas Vos. If not, it’s a great set because it is an Expanded Universe take on the Royal Guards we are so familiar with already.
