Faie has received specialized training from ARC trooper Alpha, equipping him with the necessary skills to lead an elite battalion during the Clone Wars. He is part of task forces sent to Saleucami and Kashyyyk under the command of Jedi General Quinlan Vos.
Commander Faie served under Quinlan Vos and the events of the Clone Wars they shared together are only documented in the Expanded Universe (and there are many). Since we are not privileged
to witness this action on screen, we will need to take the Expanded Universe's
word on it and quite honestly, the stories are very well done. Figures based on concepts and concept art have edge their
way to mainline interests and over time they have become quite successful
action figures. Undoubtedly attributed to Ralph McQuarrie, there is new
and passionate fan interest in all things “artful” and we
count ourselves particularly spoiled that Hasbro is pumping so much energy
into this subset of figures. One of the many abandoned concepts for Star
Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith, it is a crying shame
that Commander Faie (in this outfit) wasn't given a chance in the film
because it has a remarkable look and design. While this particular outfit
has been referred to as "Clone Engineer" gear, Faie looks more
like a member of the 7th Legion which is another abandoned clone trooper concept design that was eventually released as 2007's TAC Clone Trooper (7th Legion Trooper) (30 49) basic figure. If you remove his soft-goods you'll see what we mean.. Wookieepedia also refers to this gear as a “Cold
Assault Clone Trooper”. It probably would have been very fitting
to see him in action on Mygeeto in this gear, but Lucas decided to place Commander
Bacara in this scene. Still, Commander Faie holds his place well
as a concept art action figure. In fact, this gear was represented in a
few other Expanded Universe sources as well includin Star
Wars Republic: The Siege Of Saleucami.
Faie
(as seen in Episode III) mirrors the look of a Kashyyyk
Trooper. We
affectionately call these clone troopers our “camouflaged biker
scouts”.
And depending upon who you talk to, some fans will indeed confirm that
the Faie character did appear in Episode III in the camouflage gear.
To see Commander Faie in a pure white outfit is pretty stark in contrast.
He looks fantastic and we have to say that Hasbro did some intense
research to get all the parts and pieces just right. To be quite honest,
Commander Faie is very reminiscent of Commander Keller from the 2007
TAC Commander Keller/Galactic Marine Walmart exclusive Comic Packs set. Clearly Keller was based off
of 2007's TAC Airborne Trooper (30 07) design, but both Keller and Faie are outfitted
in mostly white, with additional white details, finished off with white
- you catch our drift. Additionally, both figures have very similar
white soft-goods. And as simple as white tends to be, it works very
well here lending a very striking appearance and obvious protection
from the coldest elements. As part of The Legacy Collection,
we appreciate Hasbro throwing in these concept figures sporadically but
yet remaining in line with the theme of the wave. This unofficially titled Revenge
Of The Sith wave had some pretty strong movie-specific characters,
but it needed a little twist to it. Commander Faie is indeed this awesome
twist. He is a strong seller and we don’t imagine him surviving
too long at retail. This is for good cause, because he is truly a well-designed
and decorated action figure. He is anything but a standard clone trooper
and he will serve as a great leader to any battalion you wish for him
to supervise in your collections.
Commander
Faie, for all intents and purposes, is an all-new figure (with a few
borrowed parts). He is also super-articulated and comes with the standard
clone trooper blaster. His two-part helmet is a very clever design.
Coming apart in two pieces, it doesn’t look the slightest bit bulky or too big.
And once both pieces are removed, you will find a standard clone likeness
but this time he has a crew cut. This was a nice surprise and it is perfect
to give Commander Faie the individuality her deserves. His soft-goods
tuck nicely under his belt and have a very nice drape. Unfortunately,
the soft-goods are a bit too shiny and polyester looking and we wish
that Hasbro would dull down the cheap fibers they have been using to
make them. His clone belt is removable so you can pose him with or without
his soft-goods. He has two dark reddish brown circles on his left shoulder/chest
and left side knee. (This is what makes him look a lot like the 7th Legion.
His joints allow him to be posed in a variety of options and we think
Hasbro has perfected the concept art of this character into three dimensions
very well. We like this clone design so much and we feel that it would
be great to see more and more figures utilize this engineering. In fact,
we like this version of Commander Faie so much that we even wish that
Lucas will add this style of him to a “Special Edition” of
Episode III one day, we can only hope. He undoubtedly is that worthy
to appear in the film (based on figure looks alone) and we are sure a
compelling story or scene could be contrived to make a believable entry
for him into the film. So obviously, he will make a wonderful entry into
your collection. We are not too worried about Commander Faie doing well.
He is an excellent and very cool action figure and we believe he will
ranking in the top 10 for the best action figures in The
Legacy Collection. Commander Faie is obviously a strong candidate
to the very good The Legacy Collection and
we know he would make the same claim to your personal collection.
