C-3PO [New Pull-Apart Feature] - POTF2 [FF/TKC] - Basic

A short stay on Bespin's Cloud City left protocol droid C-3PO dismantled and dependent on his Rebel companions.

How exciting was it in 1982 when Kenner gave young collectors their second unique See-Threepio (C-3PO) figure? This release sported a very cool feature: the figure’s limbs were removable to recreate the scene in The Empire Strikes Back where the protocol droid was blown to smithereens. Chewbacca then had to carry the droid on his back in a cargo net to keep the pieces all together until he could find time to repair him. (R2-D2 ended up doing most of the repair ultimately.) Anyway, when the Kenner/Hasbro line was reinvented in 1995, collectors began wondering when the toy company would get to these very clever and unique versions of the main characters. Thankfully, we didn’t have to wait too long. In 1998, Kenner/Hasbro decided to approach the basic figures in a newly scaled fashion. They wanted to step away from bulky proportions and inaccurate weapons. There were exceptions of course where Hasbro had to include screen inaccurate accessories, but the new year of 1998 brought accurate sculpts and divine accessories to our beloved action figures. And C-3PO [New Pull-Apart Feature] is no exception. In fact, it’s one of the finest figures in The Power Of The Force “2” Freeze Frame phase of the line.

C-3PO [New Pull-Apart Feature] looks absolutely fantastic. The sculpt is excellent. The proportions are incredibly better than the 1995 figure. And C-3PO [New Pull-Apart Feature] has a paint job that will make you pick your jaw up from off the floor. It’s that good. We’ll go into greater detail about the figure. But we would be remiss to not point out immediately that we’re probably most impressed with the soft-goods cargo net. Functionally it isn’t perfect as there isn’t a whole lot of room to thrown in his broken down body, but it is possible. You can also attach it to your 1995 (or any other) Chewbacca figure very nicely and recreate the scenes from The Empire Strikes Back. For the first time ever we can really recreate accurately the way in which C-3PO sustained this damage, although many will argue that his limbs didn’t break off as cleanly as the action figure portrays. Many also have to let some stupid thoughts about things go too. Although technically swivel joints, all four limbs (and head) are removable and stay in place assembled to the figure with push-pin snap attachments. The provide pressure which keeps the limbs in place, but not too much pressure where the arms and legs cannot be articulated. The engineering of parts here is simple but effective.

The call-out sticker on the figure brags about the figure having a realistic metalized body. We have to agree. The same vac-metallization process used to adorn our vintage Kenner See-Threepio (C-3PO) figures has been used here but updated. It’s been updated to include incredible dirt and battle-damage paint operations on top of the metalized body. We can guarantee you that to date this is the nicest C-3PO figure that money can buy. You’re going to love it. The nice thing about this figure is that you can use it for many purposes, and not just for the battle-damage removable limbs and head features. This figure would work for dioramas for both A New Hope and Return Of The Jedi as well. This figure has a great deal of flexibility and your options are truly endless. Part of the Freeze Frame phase of the POTF2 lineup, C-3PO [New Pull-Apart Feature] comes with a cool freeze frame action slide. The film cell shows Chewbacca holding C-3PO on his back with Lando, Leia and Stormtroopers in frame. It is an awesome still from the film. We believe that C-3PO [New Pull-Apart Feature] will not age quickly and will likely remain a favorite figure amongst Star Wars collectors. It’s one of our favorites too. Definitely give this figure a chance.
