Battle Of Geonosis: Jedi Knights [Version 2] - SW [DV/ROTS] - Exclusives

When Anakin, Obi-Wan and Padmé are captured by the Separatists on Geonosis, a group of Jedi comes to their rescue. A fierce battle ensues as the Jedi are confronted by Geonosian warriors and Battle Droids. The Jedi ignite their lightsabers and face the hostile forces as the battle spills out of the arena and onto the Geonosian landscape.

It’s quite unbelievable just how many Jedi action figures we have already acquired in our collections that were part of the opening skirmish in the Battle of Geonosis. The great news is that Hasbro shows no signs of terminating the production of them for the 3.75" scale toy line. More and more will come to collectors much like the Toys R Us exclusive multipacks part of the 2013 Star Wars [Darth Vader/Revenge Of The Sith] line. We personally hope that they don't cease coming our way. The Battle Of Geonosis: Jedi Knights [Version 2] set is dramatically different from the Battle Of Geonosis: Jedi Knights [Version 1]. Don't let the name of the sets throw you off track. Hasbro is often good for throwing an overlooked curve ball in their multipacks and they’ve managed to squeeze in their own “Hasbro Concept” figure in this set. But we’ll get into that more in a moment. Just like Battle Of Geonosis: Jedi Knights [Version 1], Battle Of Geonosis: Jedi Knights [Version 2] gives collectors three Jedi (two from Episode II and one "not" from Episode II) and Clone Commander Deviss. The set looks fantastic and it’s more diorama fodder for your display shelves to recreate the arena battle. We feel it’s odd that Hasbro used the “kids’ focused” line look to package these sets clearly designed with collectors in mind. It would have been fantastic and perhaps collectors would have taken them more seriously had they been packaged in The Black Series of The Vintage Collection line looks. Hey, we feel the same way about the Ewok Pack and the Yavin Pilot Pack in Star Wars [The Phantom Menace 3D] line look packaging. That is just plain wrong. (Thank goodness those sets sold through for the most part.)

This set contain a phase I interpretation of Clone Commander Deviss. Clearly this didn’t take much effort since it’s just a simple Clone Trooper officer (captain). The figure has been repainted and it looks pretty decent. But again, why in the world didn’t Hasbro repaint the 2011 TVC Clone Trooper (VC45) figure and finally give us a captain utilizing this sculpt? It escapes us. This set is for collectors, so give us the best updates to the characters. Battle Of Geonosis: Jedi Knights [Version 2] also contains, Que Mars Redath, an awesome Weequay Jedi. Of course, you'll immediately discover he is reminiscent of 2006's TSC Sora Bulq (SAGA 015), yet the each have their own unique charm. Hasbro utilized the popular but rare 2009 TLC Tarados Gon (BD 49) sculpt and gave it an all-new head sculpt and hands. Sadly, something happened at the factory and Que Mars Redath and Khaat Qiyn (also in the set) accidentally had their left hands switched. Interestingly, they have been painted correctly as it should appear on the character, but Que Mars Redath has a smaller feminine left hand and Khaat Qiyn has a larger masculine left hand. It would be wonderful if Hasbro could fix this issue, but we doubt there is time to fix this issue now. Speaking of Khaat Kiyn, she is a kit-bashed figure that utilizes the upper body of 2008’s TLC Stass Allie (BD 23) and the legs from 2010's LC Jaina Solo (BD60) with an all-new head sculpt and hand(s). The errors are not deal breakers for us. We still think the sets look great, but isn’t this a testament to the continued breakdown in communication between Hasbro and the international factories? It seems that their voices are heard less and less.

The “Easter egg” in this set is Selig Kenjenn. He is 100% a Hasbro Concept . He is based on Lucasfilm, Ltd. employee Leland Chee. While it may just be a coincidence, we also can’t ignore that Selig Kenjenn must also be an anagram of Ken and Jennifer Giles. Maybe they’re friends of the Hasbro sculptor who made this figure or maybe that's a completely unrelated correlation. Who knows, but the coincidence is uncanny. Besides, if a collector can't recognize a Jedi Knight from the Battle of Geonosis in Episode II, does that mean that character is or isn't sourced from the film? In other words, Slig Kenjenn fits seamlessly in this set and you probably won't care that he is actually from somewhere deep within the Expanded Universe. He utilizes most of the body of 2011's TVC Fi-Ek Sirch (Jedi Knight) (VC49). Interestingly, he comes with a 2010 date stamp on his leg. Fi-Ek Sirch (Jedi Knight) (VC49) has a 2011 date stamp. It makes us wonder if thes eparts were one planned to be used on some 2010 release of a Jedi Knight (or if it was and completely missed altogether). That's an investigation for a later date. Last but not least, Clone Captain Deviss is a fancy way to name a Clone Trooper captain. Based on the approach of 2007's TAC Clone Trooper Officer [Captain], the figure is just a revamp of the original 2003 CW Clone Trooper ('03 #50) figure. We still will pout over the fact that they didn't repaint the 2011 TVC Clone Trooper (VC45) sculpt. This set was clearly designed for collectors to accompany the collector-focused TVC Republic Gunship. Nothing seems to make much sense anymore. That being said, we love these Toys R Us exclusive multipacks. There is some great content in them.
