There is once more trouble in Star Wars land… the Knights of the Old Republic remake that has been in development for about three years, and which was officially announced about a year ago, is now on indefinite hold according to Bloomberg. Apparently the studio Aspyr Media was not happy with the current direction of the game. The art and design directors were both fired and after the firings the project was put on indefinite hold.

Aspyr is still committed to eventually releasing the game, but fans may now have to wait a long, long time for that. With how long video game development usually takes it could be 2025 and beyond before the remake is (maybe) released. Development shake-ups are nothing new in the video game world, it happens all the time, still it is unfortunate that yet another Star Wars project is in rough waters.

Another question is if and how the delay will affect Hasbro’s release schedule for Bastila Shan and Darth Malak Black Series action figures, both of which were revealed as pipeline figures a few months ago.

Sideshow Collectibles has added the teaser images for the Hot Toys figures on display at SDCC. Click below to check out the full images.

Hasbro sent out an official statement verifying that they will be keeping the bubble for both The Vintage Collection and Retro Collection lines.

Our goal does not include packaging for fan collectible products like 3.75” action figures, where packaging is part of the product experience and typically retained intact for fan display and collections. Those lines include Star Wars Vintage and Retro, as well as other collectible brands such as Marvel Retro and the G.I. JOE Retro.

UPDATE: The Black Series will receive a plastic free box design however. The current design of the box will still be the same, so the spine will have the same style of illustration, but the front will no longer have a plastic window and instead just show a photo of the figure in the box.

Holy cow! If dealing with Disney Star Wars means we’ll get figures like The Vintage Collection Darth Vader (The Dark Times) action figure, then so be it because this is the BEST 3.75-INCH DARTH VADER Hasbro ever produced. That’s not an exaggeration. This action figure can do ANYTHING! By the way, it’s hilarious that they gave TVC collectors an all-new figure with interchangeable hands and just gave TBS6 collectors a repack. Didn’t they have better profit margins with TBS6? Sideshow Collectibles has dropped teaser placeholder pages for some new and upcoming Hot Toys products, including the N-1 Starfighter. Don’t get your hopes up on some of these though, these high-end teases have been known never to see a general release. Until we see official reveals from Hot Toys, these should be considered prototype displays for now, especially that N-1 Starfighter! I’m sure we will see these all on display at San Diego Comic-Con this week. Other than Tech from The Bad Batch, all of these are from The Book of Boba Fett.

It’s yet another weekend! Time for some entertainment! Today I want to feature an older YouTube video titled “Obi-Wan Has PTSD”. It’s one of the more popular fanmade Star Wars videos on YouTube with about 15 million views. So chances are some of you may have already seen it. It’s also not particularly new, it was released six years ago.
But if you don’t know it and think it may be yet another funny meme video you will be surprised, it’s anything but a funny meme video.

The reason why I feature it today is that I think it’s a perfect companion piece to the recent Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+, where Obi-Wan’s PTSD was also a focus early on. However, I feel the fanmade edit does a better  – more subtle – job at explaining why Obi-Wan would suffer from PTSD and how deeply it affects him. And it’s all achieved by editing and splicing existing footage from the movies, combined with some new music. So if you have five minutes to spare check out the video after the jump!

It’s time for our weekly look at the Nielsen Streaming Charts! As explained before the charts are not up to date, there is always a month long delay or so. So we get numbers for part V of Obi-Wan Kenobi only now! Kenobi started out really strong with its first three episodes on Disney+, then it lost viewers with episode 4, but with episode 5 it recovers some of the lost ground. Click through for more!

The Amazon exclusive Retro Collection Boba Fett and Bossk bounty hunter set is available to pre-order on Amazon.com.

With the second failed Black Series HasLab in a row the question is what could be next. To put the blame for the two failures on the Black Series as a toyline is shortsighted, since both HasLabs were either half-baked lazy attempts (Rancor) or mindboggling choices (Reva’s lightsaber, really???) to begin with.

It’s a moot discussion about who’s to blame here, it’s most likely Lucasfilm in my opinion – with some assistance by the Hasbro Star Wars team. The big question is if Hasbro should give the Black Series one more try at HasLab.

We will not talk about potential TVC HasLabs here, since TVC has several no-brainers that would almost certainly be a success, like the Death Star Playset, the Cantina from A New Hope, maybe a Sandcrawler or even the Ghost from Rebels (with crew). It would be a good idea to have the next Star Wars HasLab be a TVC item and only after that Hasbro should revisit the Black Series.

So what would be some good choices (for a change!) for a Black Series HasLab? Click through for my ideas and then add your own ideas and suggestions in the comments. Lucasfilm and Hasbro seem to be in dire need of some help here!

Well, technically, it’s Amazon Prime Days as it runs through tomorrow. Keep checking their Star Wars deals, and let us know if you see any good ones that we can share! We’ll post any that we find! Prime Day is usually good for a few decent deals on The Black Series and The Vintage Collection, especially on past Amazon exclusives.  For example, grab The Bad Batch TVC set right now for $38.99!

And that’s it… The Reva Force FX Lightsaber HasLab ended with a resounding “thud”. Final backer number is 1,413, which is not even close to the 5,000 people who were needed. That is the second failed Star Wars Black Series HasLab in a row. Hasbro and Lucasfilm should do some deep soul searching and evaluate the situation.

Why did the Black Series ever get these extremely lackluster HasLabs to begin with? The Rancor looked merely “ok”, but not great, the tiers were a bad joke (a cardboard backdrop, really? Repacked figures?) and Reva’s lightsaber was dead in the water right from the start. Whoever thought people might want that? Either Lucasfilm or Hasbro (or both) need a reality check. Well, they got one for free now with a failed HasLab that only convinced a little more than 1,400 people to back a Force FX lightsaber for a brand new Star Wars character that is maybe not as popular as Lucasfilm would like it.

Cue sad trombone sound

Does the use of the words “Ewok Village” in Princess Leia (Ewok Village) intimate that Hasbro might be working on a 3.75-inch playset or figure for the 40th Anniversary of Return Of The Jedi? It’s an odd choice of words to describe an action figure of a character from Episode VI, but it could be nothing at all. It’s a beautiful action figure. And most importantly it’s one of the most-needed updates in The Vintage Collection. (more….)

In Demand Toys revealed a new upcoming The Vintage Collection set titled The Rescue Set. No other details are available yet. We will have to wait for the official announcement to find out if and where this will be exclusive. Click here to see the rest of the images.

Another excellent release in The Vintage Collection is the Mandalorian Super Commando. And it may result in the production of a new Obi-Wan Kenobi variant from The Clone Wars. At least, hopefully. (more….)

Nielsen updated their weekly streaming charts yesterday and part IV of the Kenobi series on Disney+ was added. In the previous charts Kenobi had accumulated 958 million minutes with three episodes according to Nielsen. With part IV now added that number has gone down to 682 million minutes. “Wandering” sounds so aimless. But Hasbro shows collectors their drive and passion for The Vintage Collection line is anything but aimless with the  Obi-Wan Kenobi (Wandering Jedi) figure. Besides, you have to learn more about the L0-LA59 accessories included here. Hasbro gives us more “stuff” in a basic carded release than in their “Deluxe” figures sub-line. As of this post, the Walmart exclusive The Vintage Collection blue ARC Trooper is available for $13.47 if you still need him!

Since the late 70’s, the Star Wars toys Kenner, and then Hasbro, made were for kids. The current line-up of Hasbro toys, however, are adult collectibles. Perhaps no recent figure makes that more apparent than the Deluxe Boba Fett (Tatooine) release. At $28, it is unlikely that the average parent would make that purchase for a child or even teenage collector. Expensive action figures are not unprecedented, nor are adult collectible 1/18 scale lines. How does Hasbro measure up? Can they compete in this market, and how does this gateway figure compare to other similarly expensive lines? More…

So how did Obi-Wan Kenobi perform? Fantastic. It’s one of the most popular Disney+ series ever and with just three episodes outperformed most other streaming shows available on Netflix and Amazon. Click through for more!
